Happy 50th Anniversary Sam & Carolyn

We had a great Labor Day weekend celebrating Joe's parents 50th anniversary. According to the USA Government Stats only about 5% of marriages make it to 50 years.

Here is my favorite story that was told by Carolyn ..... Just before the reception, unbeknownst to Carolyn, Sam and his best man traded tuxedo jackets. Sam is tall and his best man was short, so the sleeves were way too short. Sam comes up to Carolyn and shows her that they "got the wrong suit coat" from the tuxedo shop. Of course Carolyn knew that there was no time to get the right size so she said, "Well just stand behind me, people come only to look at the bride anyway."

First Day of School

So today was the first day of Kindergarten for Joey ..... one of the first things, if not the very first thing, he said to me when I picked him up was , "Mom, I didn't get sent to the principals office!"

Way to go Joey we are off to a great start!

Is Joey a Smarty Pants?

So today Joey and I had an appointment to meet his teacher and go on a little treasure hunt to get acquainted with different areas of the school and his classroom. One of the stations was a math area where each individual student, at separate times, was to guess how many dinosaurs were in the jar. Joey looked at it and guessed 28 and then wrote his answer down on the paper with his name and put it in the basket. I just happened to notice that the other students had written numbers like 4, 8, etc. Then the students were to dump out the dinosaurs and count them ---- Joey was exactly right! I was feeling so proud of how smart he is and how good he is at math.

A few hours later .....
I mention to Joe that he should ask Joey about the dinosaurs at school. Joe asks him about them. Joey then tells him the story of how he "guessed" the right number of dinosaurs. Joe asks him how he could guess so well. Joey then replies, "I heard the other girl count the dinosaurs so I already knew how many were in there."

My other favorite part was how he showed his teacher his back pack and how there was a place for his Ipod headphones. The teacher looked at me and him and let us know that Ipods weren't allowed in school. Just for the record Joey doesn't own an Ipod ....

I just keep wondering what his teacher's first impression must be of Joey and our family.

One Year Older and Wiser Too

Yes .... I am now one year older and wiser, too. Thanks Renae for finding such a great picture of me. The 80s were a great era ..... wish I still had that outfit. I always wanted to be able to feather my bangs better.

Jay's Obituary

The Salt Lake Tribune did a nice article on Jay click here

Here is Jay's obituary from the Deseret News click here

My sister Renae posted this and I couldn't agree more and she said it so well that I just copied it ....

It seems like every so often, we are reminded that the world around us is not quite what we think it should be, and that we are not the ones in control. Sometimes these experiences are amazing and wonderful. Sometimes they are exhausting and heartbreaking.
