Tommy Surgery

We are home! Tommy's surgery went well. We had a scare in the post op because he had a hard time breathing, and ended up spending the night in the PICU. He is a fighter and was fine by the morning and was able to be released on Tuesday as planned.

The Brothers the day before surgery

On our way to Primary Children's Hospital

All hospital gowns are the sameWe were the last surgery of the day. We weren't scheduled until 1:30pm. Tommy couldn't have formula past midnight the night before and then only apple juice or pedialite. We haven't been giving him a binky because we found out he couldn't have one after his operation, but the hospital gave us one to help him not be so fussy while waiting for surgery. It worked!
Post OP getting oxygen. He stopped breathing 7 times. Pretty scary for a while. They gave him some drugs to temporarily paralyze his vocal cords and that helped. They had to give him that medication 3 different times in the post op room.

Breathing just fine and in the PICU

Check out the arm braces and the thing around his lip called a bow. He has to wear both for 4 weeks.

Close up of his stitches. Oxygen mask close by just in case. It was never needed in the PICU.

YEAH! Released from the hospital.

SEVEN times? That is so scary. It 's is so hard to watch your little baby endure something like that. I'm so glad he is okay and you are home safe and sound. That cute little fat lip is adorable! 4 weeks is a long time to not be able to bend your arms...poor little guy. Good luck and we hope recovery goes well!

We are so glad to hear you are home and little Tommy is doing well. What a trooper! Surgery is so hard on little ones, especially. I know that level of emotion and concern afterward. It hurts so much to see your little ones hurting!! Our thoughts have been with you all. We continue to pray for Tommy and your family. May he have a quick and happy recovery!

Hi Joe and Julianne, this is Rhonda. I am so glad that the surgery went well. This certainly has to be a little scary for you but we hope recovery goes quickly. To see him sleeping so soundly in the last photo is reassuring after going through all he has. I'll keep checking for updates! Good luck!
